Jericho Israel Tour
Everyone that takes a flight into Israel wants to visit
Jericho at some point in their trip. Not many know that Jericho is a
Palestinian city on the west bank of the Jordan Valley west of Jerusalem. Wow,
that was a mouthful, but to truly see the beautiful places in Israel, a
comprehensive Jericho Israel tour is all you need.
The old scrapyard of the oldest city might not look like
much from a distance, but the history and story each brick and pathway tell is
remarkable. Everywhere you look there is a tale, a piece of the old tied into
the new. With all the glory of this city, you will be taken aback by the
archeology, architecture, history, and people as you appreciate a Jericho
Israel tour.
Starting the tour
Some of the best places you cannot miss are Elisha Spring,
Jericho’s central square, and of course, the plenty of archeological dig sites
that revealed just how old this city is. Not quite the fascinating site reading
about it, but a trip on the ground will fill your mind with how much humans
have evolved.
Ah, and while you are in Jericho exploring the ruin and
marvel at the modern blend, give you legs some exercise by climbing up the
oldest staircase on the oldest wall ever built. Don’t forget to take pictures;
you need to tell your friend what you learned on your tour around Jericho.
Hisham’s Palace
We did mention that Jericho is on the Palestinian side of
the West Bank, so you are bound to see some Arabic inscription on architecture
and artifacts every once in a while. The Palace of Hisham was the never
completed and later ruined was built in 724 AD by the 10th Caliphate Hisham. We
say ruined; because it was recorded destroyed by an earthquake 22 years after
its first bricks were laid. Despite the ruins, you will see the beautiful
pillars that the upper deck will have sat on, the bathhouse, artistic
craftsmanship, and a mosaic preserved over the century.
The Wadi Qelt
Step aside from the dry land and ruins into green and lush
vegetation surrounded by palms, freshwater, and serenity that has remained a center
of attraction over the ages. While the greenery is enough sites to see, this is
also home to many of the monks that lived during and after Jesus. It is home to
the most visited St George’s monastery. Take a hike with Christians of old and
experience, Jericho, from their perspective.
